New Humanity condemns airstrikes on Gaza at the UN Human Rights Council

During the 58th session of the Human Rights Council, New Humanity NGO and Caritas Internationalis united to deliver a compelling joint oral statement condemning the resumption of airstrikes on Gaza. This statement highlights the tragic loss of over 400 lives and the continued displacement and terror inflicted upon civilians, underscoring the critical breaches of both International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law.

Key points of the statement:

• Condemnation of airstrikes:
  The joint statement strongly denounces the resumption of airstrikes that have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The violence has shattered a fragile temporary ceasefire agreed upon in January, and it constitutes a grave violation of international law.

• Impact on civilians:
  The airstrikes have resulted in significant loss of life, widespread displacement, and pervasive fear among the civilian population. With the full blockade of humanitarian aid and the ongoing closure of the Rafah crossing since March 2, the risk of mass starvation in Gaza continues to grow.

• Urgent calls to action:
  The statement calls for an immediate ceasefire and demands full, safe, and unimpeded access for humanitarian aid. It further urges all parties involved to comply with their international obligations to protect civilian lives and to refrain from targeting civilian areas.
